Sydney Markert

Sydney Markert is a dancer, choreographer, and educator originally from Iowa. She began her training under Nancy Moore Overturff and Ami Yaro, developing a strong foundation in performance, discipline, and artistry. She earned her BFA in Dance from the University of Arizona, graduating summa cum laude with a minor in Information Systems. During her time there, she performed works by renowned choreographers such as Sherry Zunker, Ohad Naharin, and Christopher Wheeldon, as well as faculty members Amy Ernst, Tammy Dyke-Compton, James Clouser, and many more—experiences that helped shape her voice as an artist.

Sydney spent seven years performing professionally in Chicago with Inaside Dance Chicago, Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, MitchellMovement, and in commercial and festival productions. She also worked with entertainment groups such as Stage Factor, AJA Talent, and Zzazz Productions, expanding her range into corporate, theatrical, and special event performance. These experiences deepened her versatility across concert, contemporary, and jazz forms.

She served as Company Director for a young pre-professional program, choreographing original works, developing curriculum, and mentoring young dancers. Her choreography has earned multiple awards, and she continues to teach across the Midwest.

Now based between Des Moines and Chicago, Sydney works as a guest artist, teacher, and choreographer, committed to cultivating confident, creative, and musical dancers.
